Been reading Affiliate Master E-book by Ken Evoy.. (get your free copy at sitesell.com) currently at Day 5 of his chapter..
So far here's what i got..

do what you love, money will follow
find high profitability topics by checking supplies and demands. Here you can use overture.com and google.com as indicators
Find the right affiliate programs with your niche
Choose the right domain name that best represents your specific content rich theme
this is where i made the mistake of buying a domain name prior doing the research..
Ken Evoy was right when he said, prepare so that you don't repair
